Race 6 of the Australian Championships was sailed yesterday in an 8-14 knot easterly breeze and Bell Potter Securities were once again first round the top mark. However for the whole race they were closely pursued by” Bridgestone B Select Annandale” who were able to reduce “Bell Potter Securities’” lead from 1 minute around the top mark the second time to 30 seconds around the top mark the third time. “Bell Potter Securities” ended up winning the heat by 53 seconds from “Bridestone B Select Annandale”. Yesterday also saw some big improvements from “Albert Smith Signs”,” Bob Jane” and “SignManager”, all finishing in good time to claim first second and third on handicap respectively.

Race 7 started in a 12 knot ESE breeze and everyone was expecting the breeze to stay at this strength for the whole race. However after the first lap the breeze kicked and was clocked at 18 knots on occasion. This took everyone by surprise even the series leaders “Bell Potter Securities” who were third around the first mark. The lead was taken by “RW Retail” and second was “Data#3” both from Queensland. The placings stayed this way for the next lap and by this stage the “Bell Potter” boys had started to settle into their usual rhythm to regain the lead. ‘”RW Retail” stuck with them however and both leader and second were closely pursued by” Bridgetsone B Select Annandale”. The increased breeze strength saw some really good downwind runs with a couple coming unstuck on occasions. The fleet has been very strong throughout this series and the sailing of a very high standard, however” Bell Potter Securities” won every heat except one to claim theAustralian Championship Trophy for the 2011/2012 year. Congratulations to “Bell Potter Securities” and all competitors in this year’s regatta.

The Australian 13ft Skiff Association has issued a Notice of Race for the 2011/12 Australian 13ft Skiff Championships to be held at Hervey Bay between 29th December 2011 and 5th January 2012.
